102 of 150 Filipinos with COVID-19 in Singapore recover—envoy

MANILA, Philippines — Out of the 150 Filipinos who contracted the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Singapore, 102 have already recovered and were discharged from hospitals, Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Joseph Del Mar Yap said Thursday.

During a televised briefing, Yap said the remaining 48 Filipinos are still in hospitals or are in isolation wards.

“So far, meron tayong 150 Filipinos na COVID-positive dito Singapore but majority of them, 102 of them na-discharge, nakarecover na sila and they have been discharged, leaving only 48 in hospitals or isolation wards,” Yap said.

Singapore has at least 40,000 COVID-19 cases. Of the number, over 31,000 have recovered and at least 24 deaths have been recorded.

Yap said Singapore has relaxed its circuit breaker on June 2 where some restrictions were eased. This means critical sectors and businesses are allowed to resume limited operations.

“We have entered into a more relaxed situation nung June 2. And then starting bukas, papasok na sa phase two [where] even more activities will be allowed,” Yap added.

Under phase two, dining in restaurants is allowed and retail shops, parks, and others will be able to partially reopen.
