Members of the Filipino community in China are now “COVID-free” after the recovery of the lone Filipino to have contracted the virus in the mainland, the country’s ambassador to Beijing said on Friday.
“We’re happy to say the Philippine community here is almost COVID-free and I’m talking of mainland China, not including Hong Kong and Macau,” Ambassador Jose Santiago Sta. Romana said.
Speaking via videoconference at the “Laging Handa” briefing, Sta. Romana said the Filipino patient, who works in China, tested positive for the new coronavirus upon landing at a Chinese airport in March.
He was taken directly to quarantine and then to the hospital for treatment, Sta. Romana said.
“He has been discharged and is now recovered and back to work,” he said. —DJ Yap
