US gives P200M to help Mindanao vs COVID-19

The United States government will provide an additional P201 million ($4 million) to help support vulnerable populations in Mindanao in the fight against the new coronavirus disease pandemic (COVID-19).

The US Embassy in Manila said US Ambassador Sung Kim promised the aid during a virtual meeting on Tuesday with Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao officials, led by Chief Minister Ahod Balawag “Al Haj Murad” Ebrahim.

Kim reiterated the US commitment to partner with the Philippines to address COVID-19 in the region.

“The US and the Philippines have met and overcome many challenges together, and I am confident that working together, we will overcome this challenge as well,” the embassy quoted Kim as saying. —Jerome Aning
