MANILA, Philippines — The number of COVID-19 cases among overseas Filipinos has increased to 2,821 with 157 new confirmed infections, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.
Figures released by the DFA showed that of the 2,821 COVID-19 cases, 1,553 are still undergoing treatment while 934 have recovered. The death toll remains at 334.
The DFA explained that the spike in newly recorded cases “covers numbers received from one country in the Middle East where data was not updated for almost two months.”
It added that Europe and the Middle East “still have the highest number of reported COVID-19 cases among Filipinos.”
“Asia and the Pacific has the fewest number of cases, while the Americas still has the highest number of fatalities,” the DFA said.

The new coronavirus, which originated from Wuhan City in China’s Hubei province, has so far infected 5,488,825 worldwide. Of the number, nearly 350,000 have died from the disease.
In the Philippines, the number of COVID-19 cases climbed to 15,588, including 3,598 recoveries and 921 deaths.
