DFA records 18 new COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad

MANILA, Philippines —The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Tuesday said that there 18 new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) among Filipinos abroad, bringing the total to 2,635.

The DFA added that there were also 16 new patients who successfully recovered to hike the total number of recoveries to 905.

Meanwhile, there were no new recorded fatalities as the number of deaths stood at 328, the DFA said.

Europe remains to be the region with the most number of COVID-19 cases among Filipinos with 795, followed by the Middle East/Africa region with 735 cases.

There are 632 COVID-19 cases among Filipinos in the Americas region, while the Asia Pacific has the lowest number of cases, with the tally at 473.

“The DFA, through its embassies and consulates, remains committed to continuously monitoring the status of our nationals abroad and providing assistance, whenever possible, to ensure their welfare as we continue to battle against COVID-19,” the department said in a statement.

The latest strain of coronavirus, which the World Health Organization declared as a pandemic, has infected 5.6 million people globally, of which 348,216 have died.

In the Philippines, there are 14,669 COVID-19 cases, with 3,412 recoveries and 886 deaths.
