98 of 115 Filipinos positive for COVID-19 in Malaysia recover

MANILA, Philippines — Out of the 115 Filipinos who tested positive for COVID-19 in Malaysia, Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia Charles Jose said 98 already recovered and were discharged from the hospital.

“Sa ngayon po, meron po kaming minomonitor na 115 cases ng mga Filipino na nag-test positive ng COVID-19,” Jose said during a televised briefing.

(Right now, we are monitoring 115 cases of Filipinos who tested positive for COVID-19.)

“Out of these 115 cases, 98 na po sa kanila ang na-discharge, magaling na po sa kanila. 17 na lamang po ang naguundergo ng treatment,” he added.

(Out of the 115 cases, 98 were already discharged and have recovered. Only 17 are still undergoing treatment.)

All 115 cases were linked to a tabligh Islamic gathering in Sri Petaling Mosque that took place in late February, Jose said.

“105 po sa kanila ay mga Madrasah students dito po sa Malaysia. Pina-attend po sila nitong tabligh gathering as part nung kanilang curriculum,” Jose said.

(105 of them were Madrasah students here in Malaysia. They were told to attend the tabligh gathering as part of their curriculum.)

“At siyam na po ay mga kababayan natin who came all the way from the Philippines para umattend dito ng tabligh,” he added.

(Nine of them were our countrymen who came all the way from the Philippines to attend the tabligh.)

The tabligh was reportedly attended by at least 16,000 people and resulted in hundreds of new coronavirus cases throughout Malaysia and even in Thailand, Brunei and Singapore.
