137 Pinoys in the US die of COVID-19
MANILA, Philipines — A total of 137 Filipinos in the United States, including 18 medical front-liners, have died of the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19), Philippine Ambassador to Washington Jose Manuel Romualdez disclosed on Wednesday.
The virus has infected 253 Filipinos in the United States, excluding Filipino-Americans. In New York and New Jersey alone, at least 40 Fil-Am health workers have died of the disease.
The latest fatality figure shows that the United States accounts for about half of the total 261 COVID-19 deaths among Filipinos abroad, based on a report by the Department of Foreign Affairs.
