253 Filipinos in US infected with coronavirus

MANILA, Philippines — There are at least 253 Filipinos who have been infected with the coronavirus in the United States, Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Romualdez said Wednesday.

Of that number, 137 have already died, 18 of which were health workers, Romualdez said during the Laging Handa briefing.

“We were able to track about 253 confirmed cases among Filipinos in the United States and also in the Caribbean, that’s under our jurisdiction,” Romualdez said.

“About 137 ang namatay dito sa disease na ito, including yung mga 18 medical frontliners,” he added.

The US has the most number of COVID-19 cases worldwide with over 1.3 million confirmed cases. It also recorded the most number of deaths with at least 82,000.

Worldwide, there are 4.2 million COVID-19 cases, with 290,000 deaths.
