DFA: Coronavirus infection among Filipinos abroad up 209; total now at 1,604

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has recorded 209 new coronavirus infection of Filipinos abroad, the “largest single-day increase” for the past month, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Tuesday.

Now, DFA added, the total number of overseas Filipinos who have COVID-19 is 1,604. The novel coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2 causes respiratory illness coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19.

“Today, the DFA records 209 new confirmed COVID-19 cases among our nationals abroad, the largest single-day increase for the past month, giving a total of over 1,600 confirmed cases,” it said.

Three new deaths have also been reported bringing the total number of fatalities to 189.

Of the 1,604 Filipinos overseas with COVID-19, 996 continue to undergo treatment while 419 have recovered, according to DFA’s latest report.

In the Philippines, the number of COVID-19 cases has reached 7,958, including 530 deaths and 975 recoveries.
