DFA: OFWs with COVID-19 now at 1,343

MANILA, Philippines — Six more Filipinos in the Americas and in Europe have tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Sunday.

This brought the total number of OFWs in 43 countries that are afflicted with the disease to 1,343.

The DFA also recorded three new recovered OFWs, raising the total of recoveries to 331. Meanwhile, another OFW succumbed to COVID-19, bringing the number of deaths to 185.

Of the 1,343 COVID-infected OFWs, 827 are still undergoing treatment, the DFA said.

So far, Europe has the most number of COVID-19 cases involving Filipinos at 418. Meanwhile, the most number of COVID-related deaths was reported in the Americas, with 106 fatalities.

“The DFA will continue to monitor the status of our people abroad and will keep on rallying the observance of preventive measures against COVID-19 pandemic,” the agency said.

In the Philippines, there are a total of 7,579 confirmed COVID-19 cases so far, 862 of which have recovered while 501 have passed away.
