8 more Filipinos abroad positive for COVID-19; total now at 1,122 — DFA

MANILA, Philippines — Another eight Filipinos abroad tested positive for the new coronavirus, bringing the total of cases to 1,122, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Thursday.

Data released by the DFA showed that of the 1,122 cases, 163 Filipino overseas have died due to COVID-19, including three new fatalities.

The other 653 patients are currently undergoing treatment while 307 have already recovered or have been discharged from hospitals.

“Based on the updated figures, the rate of new recoveries today at 9.67% is higher than the rate of new confirmed cases and new deaths at 2.77% and 3.92%, respectively,” the DFA said.

According to the DFA, around 18,000 Filipino migrant workers have been repatriated amid the pandemic since February.

In the Philippines, there are so far 6,981 confirmed COVID-19 cases.

Of the number, 722 have recovered while 462 have died.
