MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Sunday said three more Filipinos abroad have been found infected with the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
According to DFA, the three new cases are from the Middle East/Africa region. It also said there are now 654 overseas Filipinos who have COVID-19, of which 379 are undergoing treatment, 188 have recovered or have been discharged, and 84 have died.
DFA said there are no new deaths or recoveries as of April 12.
Based on DFA’s data, 226 Filipinos in 11 countries in the Asia Pacific Region are COVID-19 positive, 83 in 12 countries in the Middle East and Africa, 220 in 13 countries in Europe, and 125 in four countries in the Americas.
“The work continues as today marks the 13th consecutive day of DFA repatriations of our distressed land and sea-based OFWs affected by the ongoing [COVID-19] pandemic,” DFA said.

COVID-19 is a respiratory illness caused by the novel coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2, which outbreak started in China’s Wuhan City in Hubei province in late 2019.
Globally, the virus already infected more than 1,783,720 people and killed more than 108,900 as of April 12. On the other hand, over 404,860 people have recovered so far from the disease.
