Locsin condoles with family of Ghanaian judge

MANILA, Philippines — Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. has conveyed his condolences on the demise of Ghanaian jurist and diplomat Thomas Mensah, who presided over the arbitral tribunal which in 2016 ruled in favor of the Philippines against China’s excessive maritime claims in the South China Sea.

“He was judge & diplomate extraordinaire. Out of Africa, to borrow from [Isak] Dinesen, he was truly Something or rather SOMEONE of value,” Locsin said on Twitter on Good Friday.

Dinesen is the pen name of the late Baroness Karen Blixen, the Danish author of “Out of Africa.”

Mensah passed away, following an illness, on April 7 in London, a few days before his 88th birthday.
