5th Filipino in Hong Kong tests positive for COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines — A fifth Filipino in Hong Kong has tested positive for the coronavirus disease, or COVID-19, an official from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Tuesday.

Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Civilian Security and Consular Concerns Brigido Dulay said this over Twitter, citing information from the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong.

“A fifth Filipino worker has tested positive for Covid-19, according to our PH Consulate in Hong Kong,” Dulay said.

“The worker, who is asymptomatic, is currently confined in a HK quarantine facility,” he added.

In an earlier statement, the DFA said the first Filipino who tested positive for the disease was discharged from the hospital on March 6.

“The second and third cases of Filipino nationals who tested positive for COVID-19 are still confined in the hospital,” the DFA said.

“The Consulate continues to closely monitor the condition of all Filipino nationals in Hong Kong and render assistance as needed,” it added.
