MANILA, Philippines — A Filipino in Singapore has tested positive for the 2019 coronavirus disease, officially known as COVID-19, an official of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Sunday.
In a Twitter post, Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Brigido Dulay quoted the Philippine Embassy in Singapore as saying that the Filipino was put in isolation at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases.
“This is [the] first confirmed case involving a Filipino in [Singapore],” he said.
Dulay added that the embassy is in close coordination with health officials of Singapore “to monitor the condition and well-being of our kababayan.”

A total of 89 individuals have tested positive of COVID-19 as of Saturday, Feb. 22, according to a report from the Strait Times.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. earlier said he would oppose a travel ban on Singapore, noting a prohibition should not be hinged on a country’s recorded number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections.
