CEBU CITY – A number of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), who arrived in Cebu from Taiwan, refused to be quarantined, according to an official of the Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA).
“They want to step out of the airport, and they don’t want to be quarantined,” said lawyer Steve Dicdican, MCIAA general manager.
On Wednesday (Feb. 12), at least 78 Filipinos from Taiwan arrived at the Mactan airport.
The Philippine government on Monday (Feb. 10) announced that Taiwan was included in a temporary travel ban imposed on mainland China and its special administrative regions Hong Kong and Macau to prevent the spread of the COVID-19.
In compliance with an order of the Department of Health, Filipinos and permanent resident visa holders coming from China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan will be required to go through 14-day quarantine.
MCIAA has asked police to reinforce MCIA security guards and help calm down Filipinos arriving from Taiwan and refuse to be quarantined.
