MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte, along with Sen. Bong Go and Special Envoy to the Gulf Cooperation Council Amable Aguiluz V recently met with the family of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) detained in Bahrain.
The President, according to a Palace statement Friday, met with the family of Roderick Aguinaldo on Thursday prior to his engagement in Leyte.
The Palace added that Go and Aguiluz extended financial assistance to Aguinaldo’s family.
Aguiluz also provided scholarship grants to Aguinaldo’s three children.
Aguinaldo has been detained in Bahrain for three years for the death of a Pakistani national.
His family is set to fly to Bahrain Saturday.
The Bahraini government earlier vowed not to carry out capital punishment after Duterte appealed to commute Aguinaldo’s sentence.
