Voters’ registration in Middle East still on

Until further notice from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the overseas voter registration in Middle East countries will continue despite tension in the Gulf region, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

“We are really taking the lead of the DFA. When they advise us to move in a certain way, then that’s what we do,” Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez told reporters.

The Comelec resumed on Dec. 16, 2019 the period to file applications to become registered overseas voters in time for the May 2022 elections.

All citizens of the Philippines who are abroad or will be abroad during the 30-day voting period, who are at least 18, and not disqualified by law may register as overseas voters in all Philippine embassies and consulates or at designated registration centers here or abroad.

The registration is set to run until Sept. 30, 2021.
