MANILA, Philippines–US President Barrack Obama has invited President Aquino for a state visit to the United States early next year.
Obama’s invitation was extended by visiting US State Secretary Hillary Clinton during her meeting with President Aquino in Malacanang Wednesday.
“We are also looking forward to President Obama welcoming President Aquino to the White House, to the Oval office sometime early in the next year,” Clinton said at the joint press conference with Foreign Secretary Albert del Rosario.
Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda told reporters that Clintoh had conveyed Obama’s invitation to President Aquino, who thanked her.
Lacierda said that he still has to ask Del Rosario on how the trip would be worked out.
Clinton is in Manila for an overnight visit to lead commemoration rites of the 60th anniversary of the US-Philippines Mutual Defense Treaty.
