TRAFFIC SCHEME EXTENSION

The Cebu City Council has approved a one-month extension of an experimental traffic scheme in a portion of Panganiban Street located along N. Bacalso Avenue and in Sanciangko Street.

Councilor Ritchie Osmeña, proponent of the extension, said the City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) needed more time to “study the effect” of the one-way traffic scheme along the two streets on the economic activities of the affected areas.

The one-way traffic scheme affected passenger jeepneys from Talamban and those that ply routes in southern Cebu City.

The council first passed a Feb. 23 resolution authorizing a monthlong one-way traffic scheme in the area to enable Citom to determine how to decongest vehicular flow there.

The area houses a school, barangay hall and the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC).

Citom said last April they needed time to address the complaints of commuters affected by the scheme./CORRESPONDENT EDISON DELOS ANGELES
