MANILA, Philippines —The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has begun to distribute cash and hygiene kits to distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the Middle East, calling the packages a Christmas gift from President Rodrigo Duterte.

Among those who received the gift were 300 OFWs in shelters and jail in Kuwait; 265 mostly domestic helpers staying at the Philippine government-run centers and at the Kuwait Public Authority for Manpower Shelter and around 50 OFWs serving sentences at Kuwait’s Sulaibiya Central Jail. —Dona Pazzibugan
