MANILA, Philippines — The number of Filipinos studying in the United States (US) has increased in 2019, according to an annual survey.
Citing data from the Open Doors Report of the US-based Institute for International Education released this month, the US Embassy in the Philippines said that 3,320 Filipino students have enrolled in US universities in 2019.
This is a 2.9 percent increase from the 3,225 enrollees in 2018.
“We are delighted to see continued strong growth in the educational exchange between the United States and the Philippines, and hope it will continue,” said US Embassy in the Philippines Cultural Affairs Counselor Matt Keener in a statement Wednesday.
He said the higher education system in the US, with its “unmatched quality and range of options,” is a “natural fit” for Filipinos seeking international education.
“Our countries share deep historical and cultural ties, and the Philippines is brimming with talent and opportunity,” he also said.
Those interested to pursue higher education in the country may contact EducationUSA, the US Government’s official resource for prospective foreign students.
The Embassy said EducationUSA provides free advising services to prospective international students in more than 170 countries and offers student resources and tools to navigate five steps to studying in the U.S.
These steps are researching for schools, identifying financing, completing the application, obtaining a student visa, and preparing for departure, said the Embassy.
It added that US has more than 4,500 accredited higher education institutions and EducationUSA helps students narrow their options and plan college careers.
EducationUSA, however, does not offer scholarships but assists students in identifying scholarship and financial assistance opportunities.
