MANILA, Philippines — Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio joined world leaders at a banquet hosted by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Wednesday night as she stepped up for her father, President Rodrigo Duterte who had to return to the Philippines due to “unbearable” pain in his back.
Photos shared by Malacañang showed the presidential daughter talking with the Japanese Prime Minister, State Counsellor of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi, and Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-Cha.

Duterte-Carpio also represented her father at the banquet held for just-enthroned Emperor Naruhito on Tuesday night in Tokyo.
