MANILA, Philippines — Sixty-six distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Kuwait returned home Wednesday night, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported on Thursday.
The group was the eight batch of Filipino workers sent home by the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait through its assisted repatriation program.
“Our determined efforts have brought home some 425 distressed Filipinos from Kuwait to date,” DFA Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs Sarah Lou Arriola said in a statement.
“Our repatriation program is part of our mandate to protect Filipinos in distress abroad,” she added.
The DFA, through the program, repatriates OFWs with expired visas or absconding cases in Kuwait. The Filipino workers’ are provided airfare tickets from Kuwait to the final destination in the Philippines.
According to the DFA, a total of P9.2 million have so far been spent for the repatriation of OFWs from Kuwait.
