19 Filipinos injured in Rome road mishap – DFA

MANILA, Philippines — Nineteen Filipinos were injured in a road accident involving a public utility vehicle in Italy, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Tuesday.

In a statement, the DFA said the accident happened in Via Cassia, north of Rome last October 16.

DFA, Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Candy S. Cypres-Buazon said that the Philippine Embassy in Rome identified and obtained the contact details of the 19 injured Filipinos.

The DFA said the Embassy interviewed nine of the Filipinos, who said they suffered muscle trauma but were able to receive immediate medical attention.

Three of them sustained wounds on the forehead while two others had fractures, the DFA added.

“According to doctors who evaluated the Filipinos, no one was critically injured,” the DFA said.

“The Embassy will continue to coordinate with Italian authorities as conduct of investigation to determine the cause of the accident is still in progress,” the DFA added and expressed readiness to extend necessary assistance to the Filipinos. /gsg
