SWU runners Dueñas, Tabal capture top plums in Sun Down Run

SOUTHWESTERN University (SWU) runners Mary Joy Tabal and John Philip Dueñas ruled the 2nd South Road Properties (SRP) Sun Down Run yesterday.

Tabal and Dueñas topped the 15-kilometer race held at the SRP. Tabal clocked one hour, four minutes and one second to rule the women’s side while Dueñas finished in 52 minutes and 47 seconds to top the men’s race.

Both will be competing again today in the 15-kilometer race of the Hunat Sugbo: Dagan Para ni Maning (see separate story).

But the win didn’t come easy for both runners.

“Sakit ilang route daganon kay dagko ang mga bato pero enjoy ra man pud,” said Tabal, who bagged her ninth major title this year.

“Naghinay-hinay lang jud ko ug dagan para di ko ma injured sa kabato-an. Pero nindot man pagka prepare ilang route kay na bahin jud ug tarong ang mga runners” Dueñas said.

Christy Tutor finished in second place with a time of 1:04:57 while Raychel Limtong placed third (1:18:40.)

Adonis Singson wound up second in the men’s race with a time of 53:01 while Davao’s Joebert Carolino rounded off the top three, clocking 53:22.

Meanwhile, Zamboanga’s running queen cruised to an easy win in the 5k category of the race.

She clocked 19:20:69 followed by Aiza Suaybaguio (21:06:15) and Jean Andrin (21:28:81.)

Jorry Ycong topped the men’s division of the 5k race (16:56:42) followed by Jess Gonzaga (16:56:72) and Sherwin Managuil (17:19:93.) Winners in the 3k category are Michael Estrera and Miriam Miranda. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
