MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Wednesday renewed its call for Filipinos in Hong Kong to stay indoors and stay away from venues of protests there.
The labor department issued the advisory “in the face of escalating protests and public disruptions in the semi autonomous Chinese territory.”
The protests, the labor department said, had resulted in disruptions in public transport and business activities in various parts of the region.
“We are again urging all our OFWs in Hong Kong to exercise caution by staying indoors and keeping away from the locations where protest activities are taking place,” Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said in a statement.
Citing the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong, DOLE said protests will be reportedly held at the following areas:
Oct. 10 – Tsim Sha Tsui Police Station
Oct. 12 – New Town Plaza Shatin
Oct. 13 – Victoria Park and Edinburgh Place
Oct. 14 – Edinburgh Place and Chater Garden
Oct. 16 – Resumption of Legislative Council
Oct. 20 – The Riverpark Tai Wai to Shatin
Oct. 21 – Yuen Long MTR Station
Oct. 26 – Tamar Park Admiralty
Oct. 31 – Prince Edward MTR Station
DOLE likewise advised Filipinos there to avoid wearing black or white-colored upper garments while on the streets to avoid being mistaken as protesters. /je
