MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs on Saturday cautioned Filipinos in Iraq, especially those in Baghdad, to stay indoors and avoid traveling, especially to places where demonstrations are taking place.
The protests began Tuesday as young demonstrators flocked to the streets to demand jobs, improved electricity and water services, and an end to corruption.
Fifty-nine people have been killed in clashes with security forces during the protests.
Just last Friday, 17 rallyists died and at least 12 protesters were injured in Baghdad.

In a statement, the DFA advised Filipinos in Iraq to store enough food and water at home.
They may also request assistance from the Philippine Embassy in Baghdad, the Office of the Secretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs or nearest DFA offices in case of emergencies.
