The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has warned job seekers against illegal recruiters who may take advantage of the reported 2,000 available jobs in Yukon, Canada.
In a statement released early last month, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said he and Deputy Minister Rani Pillai of Yukon’s Department of Economic Development had signed on Aug. 28 a joint communiqué on the annual deployment of 2,000 skilled workers in the Canadian territory.
But the POEA said the Philippines and Yukon have yet to negotiate how Filipino workers were to be recruited and deployed in Yukon.
“The planned negotiations are supposed to address a number of areas, including arrangements to match Filipino workers with employment opportunities in Yukon’s labor market under the Yukon Nominee Program,” the POEA said in a statement.
The agency said the negotiations were aimed at enhancing the recruitment, protection and deployment of Filipino workers in Yukon.
The nominee program allows employers in Yukon to seek foreign workers for positions that cannot be filled locally, the POEA said.
The agency also advised the public to verify with POEA any reported job vacancies and to report suspicious recruitment activities, whether committed in person or through social media platforms.
