MANILA, Philippines — The seven Filipinos residing in a building engulfed by fire in Maldives were reported safe, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Sunday.
The DFA said the fire happened at Maldives’ capital city of Malé last Friday night, which resulted in the displacement of hundreds of residents.
The foreign affairs department added that the Philippine Embassy in Bangladesh, which has jurisdiction over Maldives, as well as the Philippine Consulate in Malé, are continuing to monitor the aftermath of the incident.
In a Facebook post, the Maldives Airport Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFF) said its firefighters provided support to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and worked 10 hours to control the fire and rescue the residents affected.
“Our prayers are with the families and individuals affected. May Allah make it easy for everyone of us,” the ARFF said. /je
