MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Energy (DOE) has assured the public that it is closely monitoring development related to the drone attacks in two major oil sites in Saudi Arabia, the world’s largest oil exporter.
Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi said he had convened an emergency meeting on Sunday to discuss the situation.
“We are seeking to ensure that the energy family will be sufficiently prepared to face the potential impact of this unfortunate incident, if any, on the country,” Cusi said in a statement Monday.
“Rest assured that the DOE, together with the entire energy family, is closely monitoring the situation, and will keep the public properly informed of developments on the matter,” he said.
Cusi issued the statement after drone strikes at Saudi Aramco’s oil processing facilities in Abqaiq, as well as their oil field in Khurai, on Saturday.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin, Jr. earlier said the Saudi attacks could affect the Philippines and may cause oil prices to rise. /gsg
