Philippines, Morocco ink direct flights deal

MANILA, Philippines – Direct flights between the Philippines and Morocco will soon be opened after the Department of Transportation (DOTr) inked a deal with officials of the North African nation.

DOTr and Moroccan official met at the Direction Generale de l’Aviation Civile in Rabat, Morocco last Sept. 4- 5 and sealed an air services agreement (ASA).

The DOTr, in a statement, said that the agreement will pave the way for the two countries’ respective carriers to “mount daily flights to and from each other’s territory, which will result in a further increase in tourism figures and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, and boost economic and social relations.”

The two parties also signed a memorandum of understanding that will grant “full third and fourth freedom traffic rights for both passenger and cargo, and setting out other operational details for their respective designated carriers.”

The deal is the seventh ASA of the Philippines in the African region, the DOTr said. Katrina Hallare/gsg
