Korean man wanted for fraud nabbed at Naia — BI

MANILA, Philippines – Immigration agents arrested a Korean national wanted in his homeland for fraud, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Friday.

BI Operations Division chief Grifton Medina said the suspect identified as Jang Hongsuk, 38, was about to board a flight to Seoul, Korea when he was apprehended by Immigration operatives on Aug. 9.

Seoul authorities reported to BI that Jang was involved in defrauding three people of more than 8.2 million won or $6,700.

Lawyer Rommel Tacorda, BI-NAIA Border Control and Intelligence Unit chief, said Jang was included in the BI’s passenger alert list after the Korean Embassy informed Immigration about Jang’s whereabouts in the Philippines.

Tacorda also noted that Jang arrived in the Philippines last Feb. 10 but the agency only issued a red notice against Jang only in July.

Jang is detained at the BI Detention Center in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City as his deportation proceedings are being prepared against him.
