President Aquino arrives in Hawaii for Apec

HONOLULU—President Benigno Aquino III has arrived in Hawaii for his participation in the Asia Pacific Economic Conference (Apec) Leaders’ Summit.

Mr. Aquino and his official delegation, on board chartered Philippine Airlines Flight PR001, arrived at the Hickam Airbase at 8:10 a.m. Friday (local time, 2 a.m. Saturday in Manila).

President Aquino arrived on a morning that saw the airbase receiving several leaders of member-economies including Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard.

Mr. Aquino afterwards motored to the Hilton Hawaiian Village Hotel where he’s billeted.

In the afternoon, the President will attend his first activity for the Apec, a panel discussion at the Sheraton in Waikiki with chief executive officers on commodity security for economic growth.

During the panel discussion, the moderator would welcome and introduce President Aquino. He would be asked an initial question which he could turn into an opening statement about the issues.

According to Malacañang, the CEOs in the event include Frank Ning Gaoning, CEO of the China National Cereals, Oils and Foodstuffs Corporation plus Richard Adkerson, president and CEO of the Freeport McMoRan Copper and Gold Inc. as well as Jane Ulrich, managing director and chairman of the Global Markets, China, JP Morgan.
