DAVAO CITY—One of the United States’ most technologically advanced combat ship docked here on Saturday (June 29)  for a three-day port visit, its first to the Philippines since 2016.

The USS Montgomery (LCS) is one of the US’ most advanced warships. It docked at the Sasa Wharf for a routine port call and goodwill visit.

The US Embassy said the ship’s visit highlights the strong, historic, military-to-military and people-to-people ties between the United States and the Philippines. The port call came amid calls by some sectors for the Duterte administration to seek US help in asserting its territorial rights in the West Philippine Sea against Chinese incursions and aggression.
