OFW falls to death in Morocco; employer under custody

MANILA, Philippines – An overseas Filipino worker in Morocco plunged to her death from the third floor of an apartment building in a bid to escape from her irate employer.

In a statement on Monday, Philippine Embassy in Tripoli Chargé d’Affaires Elmer Cato said the Filipina worker succumbed to severe injuries after reportedly jumping from the apartment building in Casablanca last Saturday following an altercation with her employer.

Cato said that the 49-year-old worker reportedly had an argument with her employer and tried to flee the building using pieces of garments she tied together.

Local authorities have taken the employer into custody pending the outcome of an investigation, Cato added.

A consular team has been dispatched to Casablanca to coordinate with authorities and arrange for the repatriation of the victim, Cato added.

Cato told INQUIRER.net in a Viber message that the two-man consular team, Arcel Donato and Lacson Casim, are now in Tunis and will be flying to Casablanca Monday morning.
