MANILA, Philippines — The national animals of the Philippines and Thailand were featured in a special postage stamp to celebrate 70 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries, the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) unveiled on Friday.

In a statement on Saturday, PHLpost and Thailand unveiled the special postage stamp that displayed the Philippine carabao and Thai Elephant at the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) office in Pasay City.
Ambassador of the Royal Kingdom of Thailand to the Philippines, His Excellency Vasin Ruangprateepsaeng and PHLPost Assistant Postmaster General Carlos led the formal ceremonies at the DFA.
PHLPost said the animals also represent values in the countries. The elephant symbolizes Thailand’s history and culture while the carabao emulates the Philippines’ strength and perseverance.
The diplomatic relations between Philippines and Thailand was formally established on June 14, 1949.
In 1967, the two nations were founding members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, which was launched in Bangkok, Thailand.
The special stamps are available at the Philatelic Counter, Manila Central Post Office in Liwasang Bonifacio. (Editor: Jonathan P. Vicente)
