MANILA, Philippines — The Kuwaiti police officer who reportedly kidnapped and assaulted a Filipina household worker was charged with rape, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.
In a statement issued Friday, the DFA noted that the Filipina has started working for her employer in Kuwait with three other Filipina household service workers, including a family member.
Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs Sarah Lou Arriola met with Kuwaiti Ambassador to the Philippines Musaed Saleh Ahmad Althwaikh on Friday, the DFA said.
Althwaikh informed Arriola that the suspect, earlier identified as 22-year-old Fayed Naser Hamad Alajmy, was charged with rape.
An arrest warrant has been issued against Alajmy.

Under Article 186 of the Kuwait Penal Law No. 16/1960 “anyone having sexual intercourse with a woman without her consent, through the use of force, threats or deception, shall be liable to the death penalty or life imprisonment.”
“If the offender is an ascendant of the victim or one of the persons entrusted with her upbringing or welfare or vested with authority over her, or a servant or a servant of any of the above-mentioned persons, he shall be liable to the death penalty,” the law added.
Althwaikh also told Arriola that an all-points bulletin had been issued to police and immigration posts in Kuwait and other Gulf Cooperation Council member states.
Althwaikh likewise assured Arriola that the Kuwaiti government “is exerting all efforts for the speedy arrest of the suspect.”
“The Embassy will continue to provide legal and other necessary assistance to her,” the DFA added. (Editor: Eden Estopace)
