Filipinos warned vs traveling to Sudan amid ‘civil unrest’

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has warned Filipinos against traveling to Sudan due to the prevailing civil conflict in that country.

“The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) recommends Filipinos against travel to Sudan at this time due to the ongoing civil unrest that has resulted in violence, disruption in communications, cancellation of flights, and restriction of movements within Khartoum and around Sudan,” the DFA said in a statement on Tuesday.

The Associated Press earlier reported that a “violent crackdown” on “pro-democracy protesters and the dispersal of their peaceful sit-in” in the capital of Sudan has killed at least 60 people.
