Duterte hits US: You don’t have word of honor

TOKYO, Japan – President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday slammed Manila’s longtime ally, the United States, for its “lack of word of honor”.

Speaking before the Filipino community here, Duterte cited how the US recalled its sale of rifles to the Philippines and how China and Russia extended assistance to the Philippines during the Marawi siege.

“Iba talaga sa America. Tsaka bossy masyado. Yung kanilang sarhento, tinyente kung magsalita akala mo heneral. Kaya hindi ako nakikinig sa kanila. I do not listen to you. Wala kayong word of honor (The US is something else, too bossy. Their lieutenants talk like generals. That’s why I don’t listen to them.  They do not have word of honor),” the President said.

“Ang pinaka may word of honor Japan. Totoo (Japan has word of honor.  Really),” he added.

He thanked Japan for extending assistance to the Philippines.

“Kung ako sa inyo, you help Japan. Truly, yung in good faith. Sweat it out. Kasi unang-una, they’re kind to us and they provide us with so many things, libre,” he added.

He likewise hailed Japan for its humane treatment of overseas Filipino workers here.

“Japan is a good country, at tsaka ang mga workers natin dito hindi binabastos. You are really treated here as human beings. Punta ka doon sa Middle East, doon ka maawa,” he said.  /gsg
