Admin bets dominate polls in UAE; Bato tops race

MANILA, Philippines — Administration senatorial candidates dominated the voting in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with eight of the top 12 Senate bets coming from President Rodrigo Duterte’s preferred list.

Based on the Certificate of Canvass (COC) received by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) from the UAE, Duterte’s former chief of police, Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa topped the election, with 35,473 votes. A close second was former Presidential aide Christopher “Bong” Go, who got 34,019 votes.

Meanwhile, Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos, another Duterte-backed candidate, settled for the third spot with 32,317 votes.

Comelec data showed that the Middle Eastern nation has 319,228 registered Filipino voters, of which 44,420 cast their votes in the May 13 elections for a 13.91 percent voter turnout.

Duterte won via landslide in the UAE in the 2016 presidential elections where he got 51,879 votes out of the total 62,103 actual votes.
