MANILA, Philippines— A six-page resolution has been filed at the Senate against two resolutions of the U.S. Congress that call for the release of Senator Leila De Lima.
De Lima is being detained at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center on drug charges.
Philippine Senate Resolution No. 1037 was filed Wednesday by Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, Senators Panfilo Lacson and Gringo Honasan.
“PH Senate resolution vs US Senate resolution: Don’t interfere with our judicial system. We’re not your vassal,” ” Lacson said in a Twitter post on Thursday.
“Ours is a sovereign state, equal in stature to that of the USA. Supremacism has no place in a civilized world regardless of race, color and status in wealth or power,” he added. /muf
