Filipino workers in Indonesia mine site landslide safe -DFA

MANILA, Philippines — There were no Filipino casualties in a landslide that hit a mine site in Indonesia, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Friday.

In a statement, Philippine Consulate General in Manado and Acting Head of Post Manuel Ayap  said that all 48 Filipinos working at the mine site are safe.

“The Consulate General was also able to contact the Filipinos in PT Freeport, who confirmed that they are all safe and were not affected by the landslide,” DFA said in a statement.

DFA said a landslide at a mine of PT Freeport Indonesia in Tembagapura in Papua, Indonesia killed two Indonesian miners and injured two others on April 3.

Ayap also advised Filipinos to be extra vigilant and to observe their company’s contingency plan in cases of emergencies. / gsg
