Survey: Filipino food among least liked globally

MANILA, Philippines — Filipino cuisine is one of the least preferred across the world, according to an international survey conducted among 25,000 people in 24 countries.

The survey was conducted by YouGov, an international Internet-based market research and data analytics firm, headquartered in the United Kingdom.

Filipino cuisine has an average popularity around the world of 36 percent, placing it in the bottom four out of the 34 cuisines included in the study.

Aside from having the biggest fans from the Philippines, 56 percent of Australians said that they like Filipino food.

In contrast, only 21 percent of the Japanese liked Filipino food.

On the other hand, Filipinos are the most appreciative of international cuisine among the 24 nationals surveyed, according to Matthew Smith, lead data journalist of the group.

“An average of 67% of Filipinos who had tried any given cuisine said they liked it, with only five types of food being liked by fewer than half,” Smith said.

Pizza and pasta from Italy are the “world’s most popular” food with an average popularity of 84 percent across the 24 countries.

Smith also noted that the “biggest fans” of Italian food were Italians themselves with 99 percent of them enjoying their own cuisine.

Other nationals such as Spaniards and French also expressed their delight in eating Italian food — 94 percent and 92 percent respectively.

The least impressed by Italian food the Chinese nationals — with only 59 percent saying they liked the cuisine. /jpv
