Philippine Ambassador to the United Kingdom Antonio Lagdameo said Culibrina’s visit is proof that Filipino artists have an important place in contemporary art.

“Over the years, Filipino visual artists have made indelible marks in international art circles. Mr. Culibrina’s residency at one of the most prestigious universities in the United Kingdom shows that the works of Filipino artists continue to occupy an important place in contemporary art,” Lagdameo said.

Culibrina, an Advertising graduate from Technological University of the Philippines, is known for merging pop culture elements in iconic classical paintings.

Prevailing themes featured in Culibrina’s artworks are cultural change, globalization, the Filipino diaspora, and the collision between art and the economy.

Culibrina’s other awards include the Grand Prize of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company Painting Competition in 2009 and the Special Citation from the Metrobank Art and Design Excellence. /ee
