MANILA, Philippines – The Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Thursday announced the arrest of a 49-year-old Korean national who is wanted in his country for drug trafficking.
BI’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) said its operatives arrested Lee Yun Sung in coordination with Korean Police Attaché Chang Sungsoo at No. 3 Soli Street, Barangay Sangandaan, Caloocan City last month.
The BI said as per official communication from Consul and Police Attaché Lee Soo Bok of the Embassy of Korea in the country, Lee was an undocumented alien and posed a risk to public safety and security being a fugitive from justice.
The same communication stated that Lee was wanted in Korea for violation of the Korean Narcotics Control Act and had standing warrants of arrest for drug smuggling issued by three different courts in Korea.
The suspect allegedly smuggled several kilos of illegal narcotics through air freights from the Philippines to Korea.
He is also on the Interpol’s Red Notice List for Narcotics Trafficking and his passport has been expired since 2007.
The BI said further investigation is being conducted pending deportation proceedings.
