MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Embassy in the US has advised Filipinos in Haiti to prepare their “personal security plans” amid the protests happening there.

“We advise our kababayans in Haiti to stay indoors and prepare their personal security plans. If they must venture outdoors, they should avoid demonstrations and any large gatherings of people,” said Philippine Ambassador Jose Manuel Romualdez in an advisory on Wednesday

According to Romualdez, about 500 Filipinos are located in Haiti.

He added that the Embassy was “closely monitoring” the situation of the anti-government protest rallies since it erupted late last week.

The rallies have already caused disruptions in the capital Port-au-Prince and other nearby cities.

Nevertheless, Fitzegerals Brandt, Philippine Honorary Consul General, reported that Filipinos were safe and were staying away from the areas affected by the mass demonstrations. /cbb
