MANILA, Philippines — Senator Richard Gordon urged China to advise its citizens to respect the rules and laws of the Philippines as he called for the deportation of a Chinese woman who threw a cup of taho, or soy pudding, at a police officer.

“China, as our nearest neighbor in Asia, should advise its nationals about complying with the rules and laws of our country and respecting persons in authority here,” Gordon said in a statement on Monday.

He called on the Bureau of Immigration (BI) to immediately begin its deportation proceedings against 23-year-old Jiale Zhang for failing to respect the country’s rules and laws.

“The Chinese passenger should be deported. The Chinese nationals here and all other foreign nationals staying in our country should respect our rules and laws,” the senator said.

“They should not flout our rules and they should also respect the officials who are implementing our laws,” he added.

The Chinese national was charged with unjust vexation, direct assault, and disobedience to an agent or person in authority after she threw a cup of taho at PO1 William Cristobal when she was barred from entering the train at Boni Avenue Station of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3.
