MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) advised Filipinos living in the United States, particularly in the Midwest and Northeast Region, to take precautions against a winter storm moving across the country that might bring severe weather into the weekend.

In a statement on Sunday, DFA said it was monitoring the situation in the US as the second of a series of storms moving across the country was expected to bring a significant volume snow and ice in the north and heavy rains and severe weather in the south into the weekend.

The DFA noted that the winter storm might affect parts of New Jersey, southern Connecticut and southeast New York over the weekend.

The Philippine Consulate General in New York, according to the DFA, advised the Filipino community to take precautions, avoid unnecessary travel and monitor weather developments in their areas and ensure that they have a sufficient supply of basic items.

Filipinos who may need assistance may call 917-294-0196 and 917-239-4118, it added. /atm
