DFA cautions Filipinos in Sudan on violent protests

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Sunday cautioned the Filipino community in Sudan due to the violent protests there.

In a statement on Sunday, DFA said about 3,000 Filipinos must be cautious and avoid public areas in light of anti-government protests due to increasing commodity prices in Sudan.

DFA reported that at least eight people were killed in the protests and a “state of emergency” was also declared in the eastern city of Qadarif, Sudan.

DFA also said the Philippine Embassy in Cairo will extend its assistance to affected Filipinos.
